Got an APS? What to do next
An autorisation provisoire de séjour (APS) is valid for a limited time. The key date is the end date on the document.
What to do
- Write down the end date. The Service-Public sheet on the APS says to apply for renewal at the préfecture at the latest 2 months before it ends. Some kinds of APS have their own rules: check with your préfecture.
- Health insurance: if you work, your employer needs your social security number or a temporary number. The CPAM gives it after you send an identity or residence document and a birth certificate translated into French.
- Bank account: if a bank refuses or does not answer within 15 days, you can ask the Banque de France for the droit au compte. It names a bank that must open a basic account.
- Taxes: every spring, declare your income for the past year, even with no tax to pay.
