Check whether your driving licence can be exchanged
A non-EU licence is valid in France only for 1 year after you settle here; then you must exchange it, if your country is on the exchange list (F1460).
United States: it depends on the state that issued the licence. The list has 18 states: Arkansas, South Carolina, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin; for some, only category B. Canada: it depends on the province; the list has Alberta, British Columbia, Prince Edward Island, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, category B only. Australia: categories A and B. United Kingdom: separate rules by issue date, see F1460. If your state or province is not listed, the licence cannot be exchanged: you will have to pass the test in France.
